Sidewalk Safety & Repair

Sidewalk Safety Eugene FAQ https://www.eugene-or.gov/Faq.aspx?QID=307

"If you hire the City to replace a section of your sidewalk which is raised because of a public street tree, the City offers the current property owner a one-time like repair at no charge to you as the property owner, if additional work is needed again at that same location and because of that same street tree. This guarantee is only valid for one repair and is non-transferable to a subsequent property owner.” (emphasis added) (excerpt from “Are City-performed sidewalk repairs guaranteed?”)

If a street tree’s roots are damaging my sidewalk, can I remove the tree or cut the roots?

No. Trees adjacent to sidewalks may be city property. If tree roots are cracking or heaving sidewalk sections, call Public Work Maintenance at 541-682-4800. The sidewalk inspector or urban forestry staff can determine if the tree is owned by the city and offer suggestions for mitigating the problem.
